Homegoing is a novel by Yaa Gyasi that tells the interconnected stories of two half-sisters, Effia and Esi, who are born in 18th-century Ghana. Effia is married off to a British colonizer and becomes a member of the ruling class, while Esi is captured and sold into slavery in America.
Allegro is the font style used for the book title on the cover. Allegro was influenced by the Didone style, which was popular at the beginning of the nineteenth century and accentuated the alternation of very thick and very thin strokes. Allegro is frequently used for decorative purposes, such as on book jackets. The serif typeface was first created by Hans Bohn in 1936 for the Frankfurt type foundry Ludwig & Mayer. It was digitized by Bitstream and is now available for sale here.
