The Lost Carving: A Journey to the Heart of Making is a book written by artist David Esterly about his journey to recreate a lost carving by Grinling Gibbons. The book chronicles Esterly's research and process of recreating the lost work, as well as his reflections on the art and craft of woodcarving.
The book title and author name are very similar to a font called Lydian. Warren Chapell created the Lydian typeface in 1938 for ATF. "The" part is set in a calligraphic variation of Lydian known as Lydian Cursive.
